Unless I'm very wrong, lack of support will be the biggest killer item on this front.
As an example, my perfectly functioning GX55 GPS had a simple display issue years ago but the vendor quit manufacturing them for Garmin (Apollo) so it couldn't be fixed.
Rather sad but it's the reality we're faced with.

I guess our avionics are going the way of the cell phones and computers we all use. After 5 or 10 years, they are obsolete.
