Can't believe I'm just catching up on this thread. I've decided, rain or shine, I'm coming to Clinton for at least 2 days. If the weather for the week looks good I'll fly in. If not, I'll make the 6.5 hour drive, plus stops of course, on Tuesday morning and leave sometime Thursday. I already have the hotel booked, so that cost is taken care of. Whether it's putting AVGAS in my 150 or unleaded in my Focus, I'll make the trip.
It was the death of a former colleague that moved me to buy my plane last year instead of this year. He wasn't that much older than me, 53, and died after a brief 2-week illness. It shook me quite a bit, and I realized life is just too short. When I did the math and realized I could afford the plane and still make it work financially, it was an easy decision. And I'm glad I made it, even with the repairs I've had to make. Wouldn't change a thing. My life has changed so much for the better, and in so many good ways, just from owning this plane and interacting with this community and the pilots in my area.
Can't wait to meet everyone that makes it to CWI.
