I can echo what Rick has said about the lake-effect snow.
While I am a born-and-raised Michigander, I have never lived close to the Lake MI shoreline - until now. We are about 15 miles from the lake, and the snow can be incredible.
On the other hand, the comfortable Summer breezes and beauty of the lake's shoreline help to offset the Winter harshness.
It's not perfect, but it's home.
