After removing the head liner to install a second comm antenna, I found a pleasant surprise in that the nut plates were already installed. We back drilled some pilot holes from inside, and then drilled the correct size from outside. Total time 30 min.
You got lucky. I had to make a doubler/nut-plate assembly and rivet it to the roof when I installed antennae on my plane (see attached).
