Bill, there's a lengthy thread in the Tech Questions section about this, including some pictures I posted. Briefly, the distance on my plane between the tank and the hole at the bottom of the wing is about an inch more than the McFarlane tube is designed for, and the vertical drop below the wing to put it behind the strut is about an inch less. There are about three different Cessna part numbers used on various models, and the McFarlane tube doesn't seem to directly replace all of them. I'd recommend that people with models around F and G would be wise to measure the distance from the tank or wing root to the hole before ordering or buying one.

Sorry, Tigers, didn't intend to hijack your thread, just wanted to point out that there are a few planes with standard tubes that the McFarlane doesn't fit. It would be appropriate for any other discussion about the tube and what it does or doesn't fit to take place in the Tech Questions thread.
