It's a CLOCK for crying out loud!!!

It boggles the mind. The "experimental" guys can fly their airplanes in the same airspace, over the same cities and population, in the same weather as we do. BUT, they can do it with a $100 clock, and we have to use a $300 clock.

The only reason to even have a clock is that it's required for IFR. The only reason I can think of as to why one would want to make sure to have "approved" parts is in the case of an accident, some investigator could find a "non approved" part and say "ah ha!!!," and void the insurance payout.

Just find a nice 2.25" "aircraft type" digital clock and install it; no tso required.

It's up to the individual person performing the installation of the digital clock to "complete adequate testing to assure that the original type certification of the aircraft has not been compromised and that the aircraft is in airworthy condition."
