As for "where to" - thats the rub for the question. I am not having to leave, I am just not satisfied with what I am doing. No great rush, but I have made some calls. The general way to put it is: aeronautical engineering, prefer Sunbelt or part way up the E / W coasts (me and cold don't mix very well). There are better chances for Palmdale, Ca., or Marietta, Ga. with my current employer.

Don't think that extra ponies up front hasn't crossed my mind, followed immediately by "but still student" and "how many extra $$"? Still . . .
Not an F-16 though - I am kinda bored with it and it's F-2 cousin I work on. I walk down between the F-16 fuselage mate and final assembly areas going to lunch at the cafeteria.
