I'm confused (and not really that motivated to research it) but... what is the definition of an airplane that can use the ATC system, fly in Class B through G sirspace, etc.; versus a flying machine that can't do these things?
I remember going to a fly-in at Georgetown, CA, with regular, normal airplanes, and there was one (strange) guy who had flown a couple of hudred miles in some motorized hanglider contraption, and he was bragging about how the feds had no juristiction over him. His flying machine didn't look like it could cost more than a few thousand bucks.
Am I correct that any aircraft that uses the "system" must meet certain legal criteria? Isn't it well known that the high price of airplanes is because of all the stinkin' lawyers?
