Well, it took nearly a year, but they finally caught up with me. Getting home late last evening, my wife handed me an envelope, saying, "Here you go, and you thought you'd get away with it ... just give 'em the 50 bucks and forget it."
BUT IT'S THE PRINCIPLE, says I.
You see, here in Kansas we have a very friendly statute that exempts aircraft more than 35 years of age from property taxation. Our C-150C, "Cheap Date," is a young-looking 45-year-old.
Only catch is, the state requires the owner of these legacy aircraft to file for an exemption, accompanied by a notarized signature and a $50 fee. This is ludicrous; but then, my opinion is worth nothing -- I'll be headed to the county courthouse to pay up the filing fee.
Yeah, yeah -- I'm whining -- as most everyone on this forum has to pay very dearly in taxes every year on our little airplanes. Guess in the end, we're still fortunate in the Sunflower State that autos take the brunt of personal property taxes (keep this in mind if you ever think of moving here).
Sorry just had to vent a little.
But just wondering, how much do you pay in taxes every year?
