Yeah, that's how proxy bidding works. If you bid a thousand dollars, but the next highest was five hundred, then you bought it for $501.00. As someone who made decent money selling motorcycle parts on eBay, I'll give a little unsolicited advice. Bidding well before the auction ends just drives up the price. I haven't yet used a sniper service, but I have set my alarm for the middle of the night just to bid on something. If it is something you really want/need and has a reasonable "buy it now" price, then jump on it. I always set a buy it now, but had things sell for 2-3 times for that at the end. I've also been on the other end, paying too much because I hesitated.
