Hi,

A friend called me tonight and said he saw a Texas Taildragger Aerobat (1981) with long range tanks, Cessna radios and around 2200 hours (airframe and engine), asking around $39K. He says the planes looks pretty clean in the photos. I realize that this isn't much to go on but I wonder if any of you can tell me if this is in the ballpark.

Thanks!
Catherine

Sounds a LITTLE high, because of the high time engine.

Catherine,

Is this a Texas Taildragger with the conventional gear only? I find it odd if it has the 150 hp engine that both plane and engine have 2200 hours on them.

For that kind of money, it ought to have the big engine, tailwheel conversion, better than that for radios, a spiffy paint job, long range tanks, AND a considerable lower time engine...like 4-500 hours.

Wayne sold his Sport Hawk for his asking price of 45,000 dollars, but for anyone who has flown it (I have) and seen it up close and personal knows Wayne spared no expense to create such a marvelous jewel.

If this little sucker isn't 150 hp, I'd run like the wind.

I've gotta see you slug the slug with a Slugger at Clinton!

I didn't see 150 hp in there anywhere. I suspect it is a stock engine, LR tanks and taildragger unless I missed something.

Without the big engine, it's not a complete Texas Taildragger Conversion.

So, basically, it's a 152 Aerobat, long range tanks, conventional gear, and nearly run-out engine. That engine has been in there for 26 years... More red flags than a Mexican Bull Fighting contest! For how much? Nearly 40 thousand... too rich for my blood.

Gary, I believe that the engine is stock 110hp. I've asked for some more information on it so I hope to have that later today.

Thanks for your help, everyone!

Catherine, this plane is like that 1000 dollar pizza that's been on the news. Is it worth it? To the right person it is.

I would love to have an aerobat. If I had an aerobat, I'd love to have the taildragger version. If I had an aerobat taildragger, I'd want to do the sparrow hawk conversion so I could have better climb performance and still keep the aerobatic certification. If I had a 152 Aerobat with the sparrow hawk engine STC and taildragger conversion, I'd want long range tanks.

This airplane is poised to make someone a VERY nice machine. To overhaul the engine and make give it 125 horses, you're looking at at least another 17000 dollars. But, with 46,000 invested, you're looking at a low time 152 Aerobat, Taildragger, 0 SMOH, Sparrow Hawk Conversion, and Long range tanks. What a machine that would be. A high dollar machine, for sure, but hole cow...what a machine. You'd add all the personality it needed, no doubt.

The price of admission is, indeed, high. But dang, look at the possibilities.

This is what happens when I sleep on something.

I have no experience, but the word going around that if it is a 152 TD, then I would want it converted to the flat leaf gear. I hear those left on the tube gear get quite aerobatic while still on the ground..................
