Well...I made a little 6 hour drive into the US of A this weekend to check out a '59 150 after a phone discussion with the seller on Thursday.
I'm excited to say that this little puppy is mine pending an inspection of the logs by an import specialist in Canada...and a final inspection on the aircraft itself in Canada. We agreed to settle on an initial price after the inspection of the logs - it will give me a little time to think about it too.
I'll be armed with Mr. Hanna's early 150 pages when the plane gets here and we run through the inspection.
Look familiar? Yup...thanks to Mr. Hoyt for pointing me in the direction of this one.
The engine recieved what I would call a "real" overhaul in 2001 that cost the owner $12,000. This was very important for me as Transport Canada doesn't readily accept field overhauls done 25 years ago.
The aircraft was painted in 2000 with that Imron stuff...and it still looks great...so I won't have to do that either.
The interior needs some work...lots of grime...and some instruments have darkened with age...but the headliner is great. I'll have to replace the belts as there's no tags on them any more.
The seller has put a fair chunk of money into this thing since he owned it in 1991...and I thank him for it.
The only red flag that came up was that the A/F and engine logs from '66 to '76 are missing. Hey, '76 was ~ 30 years ago...so not sure that's such a big deal. I'm ordering the FAA disc on the aircraft.
Not sure what we'll settle on...I'd like to get it for less of course...but this thing is everything I was looking for...and the seller is willing to fly the thing to Canada to really, really, really ease the importation.
Looks like a real sweet plane, Rob. Congratulations on the find. I hope all goes well and you can share some more pictures of your new-to-you bird. What a sweetie...the plane, that is! :gri n:

Congratulations, Rob! It looks real pretty! Real pretty indeed. Like Gary already requested, I hope that there are more pictures to come?
A question Rob. Since it is going to Canada, obviously the registration number will be changed. Do you have a choice in this? Or is a number just assigned to the aircraft?
Rob, I'm really happy for you,, See patience comes to those that wait. Only one thing though,, and you'll have to cross your self twice on this one before promising. As you go through the import process, keep us advised as to how it's going,, pit falls and all that stuff. I suspect it would make an excellent post for future folks,, us included, to read about this process of importing an airplane. Many will go through a broker,, spend wild a__s money to get this done,, Us little folks,, take the less expensive approach,, Anyways, Rob, congrats and keep us posted,,
Bill, Yes Rob is going to have to get new call letters. It's excellent that the owner will fly it into Canada for him. It's a real problem if it's from 1 of the Southern States and a Canadian buys it,, only we can't fly a US registered airplane,, so it's nice the owner will fly it over into Canada before cancellation of the resgistration. As well to answer your question, yes Rob can get the next available call letters,, of for extra money,, he can pick his own call letters
- My mechanic has reviewd the logs, and feels that it's a clean airplane. - The one item I'll need is a prop O/H due to differing Canadian vs. US standards - The seller agreed to $22K pending an inspection in Canada
I think $22K may be a little high...but the Canadian import mechanic says "no problem" accepting the engine O/H in Canada...so that will save me a bundle vs. other aircraft I've seen and evaluated.
