Uggg, I just found out the aircraft doesn't have an intercom system. How much is this gonna run me? Install labor shouldn't be too much, but I have no clue how much ppt switches and a 2 place intercom itself will be. Looking for used once. Anyone got some for sale? I did check ebay, there's a few. ...so annoying. Would hate for this to be a deal breaker.

David....go to Aircraft Spruce or Chief's aircraft and price them out.

If you let an intercom be a deal breaker on an otherwise perfect deal, then I may have to take back what I said about selling to you in an earlier thread.

You MUST understand that your first year bills on this plane (both upgrades, gotcha's and just PM) will amount to a large chunk of cash.

An intercom system can be as cheap or expensive as you want with portables and lower priced panel mounts being $122 and up (Chiefs) with PTT switches being probably around $10 each plus wiring.

If you intend to expand your panel at some future date, you may want to invest in an audio panel. Used could be $400 for used Narco or King up to $1000 or more.

Personally until you are sure this aircraft (or ownership in general) is your cup of tea, I would just buy a used portable unit, then sell it and upgrade once you know what you want for sure.

I have a Sigtronics SPA400 in my Cherokee ($216) and had a
PS Engineering PMA 6000 ($995 with marker beacon) in my Cardinal. Functionally, I can't tell the difference between the two except the cool little buttons on the 6000 were fun to play with.

Good Luck.

Jeff, thanks for the advice.
Money would be the only deal breaker with the intercom though, not the intercom itself. Remember, I'm out for a very good deal. I don't intend to keep the plane for more than 2 yrs so need to be very careful I buy for a good price. Obviously, the high the price or $$ for upgrades, the more I'll lose in the sale. I don't intend to lose anything when I sell. That may be a unrealistic expectation, but it will depend on the market and how low I can haggle the initial purchase price down to. I don't intend to do any upgrades for myself while owning the plane, just keep up with all maintenance. I plan to fly what I buy.

Anyhow, I'm starting to call avionics shops now to see what I can get price-wise. I just need a simple panel-mounted system with dual ptt. If anyone has pulled one and has it for sale, please let me know. Thanks!!

Why not find a good portable one? Then when you sell the plane
in 2 years you can keep it for your next plane.

A portable one could work if I was able to make it look like a professional install and have ptt switches. Anyone done this before? Pics would be great.

If that doesn't work, has anyone tried Sigtronics Sport 200 panel intercom?

Yep.

Course, as we all know, it's just a picture of a yoke with a PTT, not the real thing.

Whadaya think, Jim? Pretty close....for a picture that is.

David.....it's less than $200.00. That'll be cheap compared to the first year.
