"Experimental Exhibition" - legally, this plane can't be flown except to/from airshows or demos.

Also, that Subaru engine dropped a valve in '98 and the plane nosed over during the subsequent emergency landing in a soft field.

And 1500 lbs empty? You couldn't even fill the tanks and be legal!

It certainly sounds neat, and I like the Eggenfellner Subaru engine conversions that are built for the Van's RV aircraft. But I think this particular airplane has too many compromises and limitations.

I'm not so sure it says empty weight of 1500 IBS,, It says "take off" weight followed by the performance results. Not that I know much about these things,, But typrical engine is about 250 IBS,, take that off your 150,, Now add in a Subaru,, weighting in at about 265,, to create new empty weight,, so still about back to the same spot you started from with 0-200 engine.

Here's the other accident. And you're right - the engine was most likely replaced since then.

Accident occurred Tuesday, February 24, 1998 in FIFE, WA
Probable Cause Approval Date: 12/8/1998
Aircraft: Cessna 150F, registration: N8794G
Injuries: 2 Uninjured.

The Subaru Legacy powered Cessna 150 experienced a partial loss of engine power about 30 minutes after takeoff. Soon thereafter, the engine lost all power, and the pilot executed a forced landing in a nearby field. Although the touchdown was successful, the nose gear dug into the soft terrain as the pilot applied brakes to stop short of an upcoming ditch. After the nose gear dug into the terrain, the aircraft flipped over onto its back. A teardown of the engine revealed that the head had fractured off one of the exhaust valves in the forward left cylinder, resulting in the destruction of the piston.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The fracture separation of an exhaust valve head, followed by the total failure of the associated piston. A factor was the soft terrain at the location of the forced landing.

I'm amazed at this thread!

Would anyone on this forum actually consider buying this aircraft? Especially at a $39,500.00 asking price?

But then, I know people who ruin perfectly good vintage Fords by putting Chevy big blocks in them, too!
