I have an Airmap 100 as well and love it. Seems pretty intuitive (for a GPS) and the size is right for a C150 yoke and cockpit. I haven't updated my database in a while. Are they still available from Lowrance?

Ooops. Just saw the earlier response about the available database updates. I think I'll put in an order...

No, Rusty,

Sorry for the confussion! I work as a Civilian Federal Employee of the Navy at NAS Jax (NIP), but do not fly to work. Yet! I'm coming up on retirement, and I'm exploring several options. I'm leaning towards getting my CFI and other tickets to accept a position at St. Augustine (SGJ), in which case I would probably fly to work most of the time. There are also opportunities for me as a Technician or CFI at half a dozen fields within 30 minutes flight from my home. On bad days the farthest will still be only a 45 minute drive. Yet another advantage of living with your plane on an airpark! Life is good!

Yes, still a floppy disk, still $75 and be sure to time your order right so you get the latest update possible. I think they'll do that for you regardless, but ask to be sure.

BTW, yesterday I found something new and really cool about the Airmap 100. This is probably something common with all GPS's, but I just discovered it myself. I was flying northbound back to my airport. GS was 124 KTS, the result of a pretty stiff wind out of the southwest. As I got within view of home, I could see the big black arrow on the GPS pointing to a place that was well left of the field. Slightly confusing at first, until I realized the GPS was compensating for the left quartering tailwind I was enjoying, and pointing me in a direction that would allow me to arrive over the field, wind correction and all.

I thought to myself, now THAT IS COOL. The more I use my Airmap 100, the more I love it.

I have an Lowrance Airmap 100 that I bought in 98.
I have updated the data base but never updated the system software.
I know that there has been at least two system updates since I bought
this unit because I have downloaded both to my computer but not to my GPS.
I am reluctant to do these upgrades because I don't know
what they are supposed to do.

Anyone know what is different with versions 1.8 and 1.9 from 1.7?

Thanks,

Greetings,
I also have the Airmap 100, but its a newer unit then the one you mentioned, Ron. I am unaware that the software updates are available and am curious what the web site is that provides the new software. Obviously, I haven't given you any help, but any info you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Wil,

Here's the direct link:
http://www.lowrance.com/software/Upgrades/AirMap/airmap_100_190.asp

Here's the long way there:
1. Go to www.lowrance.com [lowrance.com]
2. At the bar near the top, put your cursor on "Products" then select "Software" from the drop-down menu.
3. Sroll down to near the bottom of the screen and select "Software Updates".
4. Select the update for your model.
