Fred,, I think that might be bit low,, at 15K, Engine, and that's a bit of an unknown, he did fire it up and run it up and down his field, fix a bunch of hangar rash, paint,, probably the instruments won't last long, At any rate, if a mechanic bought it he'll be able to get it looking good and flying for less, If someone like me,, paying to get it done my guess would be in the hi 30's or low 40's by the time the smoke settles, and thats before factoring critters if they got into it,,

I do think your estimate is more realistic... It just takes a lot of dollars to work out the kinks... I'd like to see this planes annual !!!

Looks like he found out about the damage history, including the 20 SMOH engine that was flown 'till it ran out of oil!

Carl - the airplane ran out of oil in 1970. The engine (if it's the same one) was overhauled in 1976. That's not the problem with that engine, it's sitting 21 years without being pickled that's the problem.
