Thank you for your interest in Sonex 1153

I've attached a ZIP file which contains a number of PDF files. Not being sure of your experience - some may not be relevant - but they include everything from a Description of LSA/Sport Pilot flying, an FAA Bill of Sale and EAA Sale Agreement, through the Plans transfer agreement with Sonex and the ones that are most meaningful about the plane:

The Airplane Flight Manual v20
The Checklists v8
and the current
Weight and Balance.

A read of the Airplane Flight Manual will give you a good idea about the plane and I welcome a personal inspection at KUUU - Newport in RI.

To try and preempt some questions:

Q - Why are you selling?
A - I'm hanging up my wings. I've had a ball flying for the last 12 years since I got my license. I'm still very competent right now with good stick and rudder skills. I flew through a Flight Review a couple of weeks ago. But I know age is creeping in around the edges. I'd rather go out on a high than be "that guy" in the pattern. Not in a rush. But it is time.

Q - Damage history?
A1 - There is a repair midspan to the left wing after the leading edge contacted a taxiway light and dinged in the skin and bent a nose rib. The repair was performed with parts and skins provided by the Sonex factory in accordance with the FAA Acceptable Methods of Repair for a stressed skin and has been through two condition inspections and a lot of acro. It's solid. In fact unless you know a Sonex - most people miss it. It looks a bit like a Piper leading edge fuel tank (if you know what they look like). The repairs were extensively photographed in progress and are available for inspection.

A2 - There is a small "doubler" patch on the front edge of the canopy to reinforce a crack that is stop drilled and cemented. Done in accordance with FAA Acceptable Methods of Repair. It's not very pretty but it is functional and works.

Q - Why is the prop time lower than the airplane/engine time?
A - I had a spare prop. When the original prop was showing signs that the finish was suffering from being outdoors - I swapped them to refinish the original. There was no point in swapping AGAIN - the spare was on. More importantly for your peace of mind - the original prop did NOT suffer a strike.

Q - Can I bring my mechanic / friend / instructor to do a pre-buy?
A - Absolutely! Nothing to hide.

Q - Is there someone at KUUU who would do the prebuy?
A - The shop at KUUU did the last Condition Inspection in Feb. You might consider them an "Interested Party" who would take my side. However if you wanted - I have checked - they would do a pre-buy for you. But I recommend you get a different set of eyes for complete impartiality.

Q - Can we go for a test flight?
A - Subject to weight and balance, weather and available runways - of course I would take you for a test flight. I might wish to reposition to KEWB - New Bedford or KOQU - Quonset to get longer runways for our safety. Newport runways can be a bit short in some weather circumstances. Please note that in no event will I fly the aircraft overweight to make a sale. We can leave out some fuel and spares and fly in shorts and a T-shirt - but I won't fly overweight. I'm 190lb. We need a minimum 90 mins fuel - 36lbs. You need to be 215lb or less.

Q - Would this be a good aircraft to learn to fly in?
A - This is extensively discussed in a number of forums. Broadly the answer is no. It is not configured in a way that most instructors would find acceptable for instructing in. There are exceptions and you might find one! But if you were thinking of learning to fly in it - you could try but your CFI might not want to.

Q - Can you give me transition training?
A - I am not a CFI. Sorry I cannot.

Q - Are there any outstanding loans of liens on the aircraft?
A - No. But for your peace of mind I strongly recommend you confirm this with an FAA Document and Lien check.

Q - What is the EXPERIMENTAL AMATEUR-BUILT AIRCRAFT PURCHASE AND SALE AGREEMENT WITH WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY document about?
A - I will ask you and your partner (if applicable) to sign this as part of the sale. In plain English it is you stating that you recognize that you are buying an EXPERIMENTAL aircraft and that this entails a level of risk. That you will not subsequently sue me or my partner if you get hurt. The document heavily favors me and I recommend you go over this with your attorney so you understand this fully. I signed one for the original builder.

Q - If I buy - how can I pay you?
A - Cash, Certified/Bankers Check, Escrow

Q - Sales Tax?
A - There is no Sales Tax or Property Tax on aircraft sales in Rhode Island. What happens when you get to your state is between you and your state!

Is that for real Graeme, hanging up your wings? Or is it just the Sonex wings? Kind of sad either way...................Jay

Lock, stock, and barrel grin. I did the same when I sold my 152. Donated some aviation tools to the Clinton Fly-In Tool Chest.
