All the exterior plastics on my 150F are showing their age. In particular, I need:

- one elevator tip
- two wing tips
- rudder bottom tip

Food for thought, David:


1. When buying used tips, there's no assurance that the screw holes in the tips will line up with the existing mounting holes on your plane.

2. Fiberglass tips are far superior in every way to the plastic versions and finding used fiberglass will be very difficult.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm in no hurry, so I'll keep my eye open for decent used for a month or two, then buy new.

Any particular companies anyone can recommend for the purchase of new fiberglass exterior pieces?

Knots2U looks good and has a good rep. They're not expensive at all (about $120/piece)...until you realize you need at least 8 pieces to do the whole plane, and start wondering what the used market looks like...

I'm not actually cheap...I'm just drawn that way.

I recently purchased a pile of new exterior plastics (well it is actually primed fibreglass) from http://www.aerofairings.ca/ The are based in Quebec, Canada. I bought elevator, rudder and wig tips, and strut cuffs top and bottom. Nothing is pre-drilled so you need a hole finder tool. All parts fit good - I used my mechanics hole finder and drilled all the parts (not the cuffs yet) so now I need to paint and install. But the cuffs are one piece, so that is more work to install since one end of the strut must be disconnected (mechanic work).

If you can find a set of old aluminum tips, grab them. I found a pair, stripped them and gave them a nice paint job. They looked great and will not crack or break. The screw holes even lined up. Looks like there is at least one set on eBay.

Agree there. We have aluminum, NOS from an L19-yep they fit. They are still even OD green(gotta get them painted)

I put a pair of Hoerner tips on my airplane when I bought it, and 19 years later are still in perfect condition. Not all plastic tips crack or break.
