Once you and Wayne get settled up on the issue, I'm ready to fly it up to you. I've made the trip once in a 150/150. How nice it'll be not to have to stick to 2 hour legs.
Just let me know when you're ready for it. I'll even fly your Cherokee down to Barron Thomas for you. I know you get those post cards "I want to buy your plane". He still sends me cards from mine that crashed last year...Maybe I ought to take him up on it...oh, I sold it to the insurance company already...I digress...
Jeff and Kathie in the Sport Hawk? Truly a marriage made in Heaven. Just think, Wayne has already agreed to pay for your next year's club membership. A $45 dollar value. Can't be beat. If you call in the next thirty minutes, I'll bet Wayne would throw in a lifetime membership!
I made one of my best landings ever in 150WW. She's a real sweetie. What a history, too 150WW. A legend.

Appreciate all the thoughts (well intentioned misguided). I prefer to believe that whether it works out for me or not is irrelevent. You see, I am already blessed with Wayne and Ann's friendship, and having owned a 150/150 AND belonging to this group.
To me, that part of life is already well fulfilled. So, when I think about some other newbie pilot (or oldbie as the case may be) getting to own a 150/150 (and not just any old 150/150), getting to meet and become friends with the Westermans, getting to join this club, and maybe going to Clinton the first time.....welll.... all I can say, is how double blessed they will be.
So, I think I will sit back and enjoy the contemplation of the possibilities, and let God sort out the realities of who will win this prize.
Thanks for the thoughts though..... | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 7,197 Likes: 2 Member/5000+posts! | Member/5000+posts! Not that I minded the short legs at all. Besides, look at all of the nice places I got to land at and enjoy along the way. It's funny, but now, when I fly mine with 4 hour plus endurance, I still usually fly 2 hour legs. 2.5 and I get ansy in the saddle. How inconsiderate of me to even insinuate that my experience in Mr. Ed was anything but extraordinary! I still think I named the trip correctly...The Texas to Oregon Oddyssey! Certainly one incredible adventure.

Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 13,969 | The 150/150 is in a whole different performance catagory when it comes to takeoff and climb. That's it. That's the difference. Yep! Just what Dan says. The 150/150 is a great airplane for two people, (and in our case, and a dog). You can really load a lot in that baggage compartment, (The newer ones with the full sized baggage area, that is). The 150/150 starts out 200+ pounds less then a 172 with the same engine . The 150 has only 9 square feet less of wing area then the 172. Compared to buying a 172, it is also much more inexpensive. In our search for a higher performance airplane, I first considered the older 172's with the O-300. They can be had in the $30,000+. I was informed by those that know that I would not be gaining much, if anything, in performance over the 150. Just a back seat. The Lycoming equipped 172's were out of my budget range. So, for an economical two place airplane that will carry just about anything you want to throw into it and still get you in and out of just about any place you want to go, the 150 HP 150 is hard, if not impossible, to beat for the money! Even at Wayne's asking price for 150WW. You couldn't touch a similar Lycoming equipped 172 for under 60+ thousand dollars! And I could almost guarantee at that it would not be nearly as pretty as 150WW. And it would definitely lack the performance of 150WW. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 7,197 Likes: 2 Member/5000+posts! | Member/5000+posts! How nice it'll be not to have to stick to 2 hour legs. At the fuel burn rate I got roundtrip to CWI this year (5.8 GPH), Birdie would fly nearly 7 hours on full tanks. On the other hand, my bladder usually goes from empty to full in about 3 hours. Doing the math, I could have two urinary emergencys with an hour's reserve. Dang! Isn't THAT good to know? Charts...check Wx briefing...check Full fuel...check Depends...check
