I bought a little flat folding stool at Walmart for about 10 bucks works just fine for me to stick it and check the fuel if I need to .so I removed my steps and handles, boy what an improvement on the looks of the aircraft

And, it is difficult to use the steps anyway. Our 172 had the steps, and trying not to slip off while hanging on with one hand and check fuel caps/level with the other hand is an invitation for disaster! Standing on top of a step stool can be hazardous but better than the steps.

You're supposed to put one foot on the step on the cowling, then use the handle to pull yourself upward to put your other foot on the step on the strut. You should have two feet on the two steps, and both hands free for checking the fuel level. You're not supposed to hang with one hand on the handle while checking the fuel level.

You’re right Hung (it has been a while) but the steps are pretty narrow, and I’m old!

Also, I’m heavy. I’ve used them but I always fear I might bend something if I don’t break something.

Um, Geoff, unless you gained a ton of weight in the last week I beg to differ.

David - I looked and didn't see a weight rating stamped on the steps I had posted about. It may have been on the stickers, but I pulled those off. Sorry.

I don't think there are steps on the wings

There are steps on the wing struts. If a plane has fuel steps on the cowling and fuel handles but no steps on the struts, then someone removed them.
