Useful load, climb, cruise, fuel burn, ground run for take offs, landing distance, distance to clear a 50 foot obstacle, service ceiling, etc. Just curious of the benefits and possible drawbacks of a 150 hp engine. Would vortex generators be beneficial on a 150/150? Would it be better to have a 150/150 tricycle or tail wheel? This is interesting. | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 11,897 Likes: 405 Member/10,000+ posts! | Member/10,000+ posts! Useful load: depends upon the STC, donor airframe, optional equipment, etc. Climb: Pretty darn good. Cruise: Depends upon how far you push the black knob. Fuel Burn: See above. Ground Run: About the same. Distance to Clear 50’ Obstacle: As good or better than stock. Service Ceiling: As high as you can practically fly a normally aspirated single. Seriously, there isn’t a lot of hard data. The Air Force Academy did study the 150/150. Their document is about the best. There really hasn’t been a lot of formal testing and there’s a lot of variety in the fleet. A lot depends upon the choices of the owner. For instance, there are different propellers used and they make a big difference in climb and cruise performance. The single biggest disadvantage is the prohibition against spins. The other disadvantages can often be mitigated by operator choices.

Probably in the car inside the hangar. I'll let him tell the rest of the story later. | | |
