Bead blasting and painting is what I did (with our mechanic's help) to ours. I used three coats of epoxy primer (pretty expensive) and two or three coats of acid proof paint. I hope it lasts a long, long time.

On the one on my 150 I just removed it, cleaned it up, scotchbrighted it and gave it a few coats of Satin black Krylon. lasted 10 years. Who uses a lead acid battery anymore? if you are not doing that, the drain is a non issue and you should never have a problem with anything in the box.

We all do, mostly. They are just sealed and not those horrible spillable vented caps.

There's wet and sealed, but they're all lead acid. The only exception for certified right now (to my knowledge) are the 'EarthX' Lithium batteries that are TSO'd.
