Based on the description and pictures, it looks like quite a plane. May everything go as planned and you get her home next month just in time for Christmas. Congrats. Jim

That's an awesome looking panel, and should serve you well for years to come! Only thing I'd change on that plane is the interior, but that's a minor thing. What were the specific reasons you changed your mind, Brian? I think it is good to hear people's perspectives and their decision process. It doesn't mean others are wrong, just that there are many different reasons to select one plane or the other. It helped me reach a decision to hear the stories of others who had bought some of the models I was considering. Cost is a big factor. Jimmy, who is also an aircraft broker, gave me some advice on ownership costs, annuals, etc, and also price-per-hour increase examples for retractable-gear. He's trying to save me money, and just doesn't want to see me over-buy for whatever my mission might be. I haven't ruled out getting a Bonanza at all, and I haven't firmly decided to get a 182 instead, but it's higher on the list and where I'm focusing my search at the moment. I'm modifying my criteria a little. If a Bonanza still ends up fitting, that's what I'll get.

A prediction: you will come to love the high gear and approach flap speeds on the airplane. (As I recall, the gear extension speed is at or above cruise and once it's extended, you can go to redline. Great speed brake.)

I guess with these older planes, you never know when you will find a great deal. It could be with a 182 or a Bo, depending on what a seller is willing to take, and the luck you have being at the right place at the right time. I think you won't go wrong with either type.
Good luck with the hunt!

Good luck with the hunt! Right place and right time are a lot of it. My suggestion to ANYONE looking for any kind of plane: If you see something which looks like a candidate DO NOT WAIT TO CALL THE SELLER. Put some $ in their hands to hold it for a week or 10 days to go look at it yourself or have a friend who knows airplanes do it for you. BE READY TO MOVE QUICKLY. By that I mean with $ and set up to go check it out. Decent aircraft are not sitting around for more than a few days. If you keep going back and watching adds and not deciding, odds are its already been snatched up by someone else. That was my experience with the Bo's.

It looks like I am buying a 182RG...The pre-buy was completed today and everything checks out. The A&P I hired couldn't say enough what nice shape it was in and how I was going to be very happy with it. There is a little hangar rash on the rudder that he said would annoy me enough looking at it that I would want it fixed. So tickets are booked December 2nd and the owner offered to pick us up at the Sacramento Airport so we can check out all the logs, manuals etc on the ride to Auburn.
Wish me luck and fingers crossed for good weather
