What were the specific reasons you changed your mind, Brian? I think it is good to hear people's perspectives and their decision process. It doesn't mean others are wrong, just that there are many different reasons to select one plane or the other. It helped me reach a decision to hear the stories of others who had bought some of the models I was considering.
So just listed is a 182RG on Trade a plane... More than I wanted to spend but all avionics I'll ever likely need, but it's in California. Now to get someone to lay eyes on it and get a prebuy done

Where's Brian Anderson? He's not too far from where you told me this is.

Officer, how about a warning ticket and we'll call it good! They call me "Speedy"
Past all that, keep us posted on your progress, though there are several of us here who will tell you to just buy a Bonanza.....airline pilots, math professors, teachers and trailer peddlers fly them so you'd be in good company.
Jim
I also considered the 182's and also 210's. I chose the speed and the handling...obviously!
Ive got a 63 P-35 and honestly it feels very roomy inside. Flown many 182s also and for me it seems the Bo gets the nod for passenger comfort except for the door thing. To me, the speed, handling qualities and overall workmanship on the Beechcraft easily swayed me. A lot depends on your mission to be sure so get what will work for you.

We upgraded to a 182Q this year, absolutely love the plane (although I prefer the gear welded down) it's been the best decision to make the change, now the whole family gets to enjoy going along on our adventures. Good luck!
