Its got a more traditional looking paint scheme. I'd go for that one if, it's overhaul was the real deal and well done, and if, the price was negotiable. Two big ifs! Better DG than 96K, an inexpensive GPS, (but included nonetheless) and the tx/ADS-B combo already installed makes Victor worth more than Kilo. It all comes down to those two big "ifs," though. If the OH was legit and the price has any wiggle room. Why would a flight school OH an engine and then sell? Is that a warning sign? Is there something they saw that said "Fix it up and dump it" or are they just trying to keep inventory updated? Maybe the school is slow and they don't fly the 150 enough to warrant keeping it? Maybe the inflated price reflects money they're trying to recoup from the cost of the OH? I wonder if I could get honest answers to those questions... | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 35,559 Likes: 559 DA POOBS Member with 30,000+ posts!! | DA POOBS Member with 30,000+ posts!! What brings me to 96K, is that 96 K has more time on the OH, but it's well clear of the initial hours after the overhaul. If an engine is going to have issues, it'll do it within... what is it... 250 hours or so. And, as you mentioned, why overhaul, then sell? Oh yeah... the Loran too. ![[Linked Image from animatedimages.org]](https://www.animatedimages.org/data/media/218/animated-penguin-image-0137.gif) [ animatedimages.org] Imagine a united world. Not far at all. 127.8 nm to be exact, not far from where I bought my 150M. I'd be happy to fly up and take a look, as long as you don't mind waiting a week. Planning to take the day off next Monday and go flying anyway since it's my birthday, so I wouldn't need you to cover any costs since I'm already going to be in the air. I'd personally lean towards 36V for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. From the best I can see in the pics, 96K appears to have a KT76A, which can be used for ADS-B Out with the GDL-82 and such, but you could easily upgrade that to a GTX-327 for around $400-$500 give-or-take plus installation. 36V also has a Vernier mixture control. I like those better than the older one found in 96K. Again, that can be another cheap upgrade though, I got one for $100 used from Texas Air Salvage. Add those two upgrades up, and pulling the LORAN (sorry Poobs), you're not going to be far away from where you're thinking of negotiating 36V down to, so it's almost a wash on those points. Agree with the others - tough call here. I've made just about every first-time-buyer mistake you could make and learned a lot in the process, so I'd be glad to take a look and give you a heads-up on anything I see that sticks out.

I have the engine logs since the G&N overhaul in Oct '97 and the airframe logs since about then, also. (There are complete logs, I only have the later entries.)
I also have the logbook entry for 36Victor for the overhaul. I can’t seem to post the attachments without an error message popping up, even though I’m keeping them well under 2MB...

IMHO the time on the engine unless within a few hundred hours of TBO has almost nothing to do with the "health" of the engine. How much its flown recently is VERY IMPORTANT!
