I had a line on a Dual XGPS150A but I didn't jump on it and it sold. Now I got a great deal on a wifi only iPad mini 4 which I bought so I need an external gps such as the Dual. I use Foreflight exclusively. Does anyone have one for sale at a decent price?

Hi Bruce.

I have not done it, but have read that you can build a receiver for a couple hundred bucks. I think they call it a Stratux, but don't hold me to that.

I have an iPad my wife bought for me (Mini 4, wifi only) and the Garmin GDL 39 that was installed when I had the ADS-B done. It is pretty cool for flying, although I am still trying to figure out all the bells and whistles. I have had Foreflight for a while, but really haven't used it much because my Garmin 196 was much simpler and really provides about all the info I need.

The Stratux is a box to receive ADS-B IN data. You can build one for less than $100. Bruce needs an external GPS receiver to send GPS location data to his iPad.

I have a Bad Elf unit I got for use with my iPad but have never needed to use it. Send me a PM if you're interested and we'll work something out.

Is it the Bad Elf unit that plugs into the iPad's data/charging port? If so, that precludes using power from a charger while flying. There are Bad Elf Bluetooth units that eliminate that issue.

It's a Bad Elf GPS Pro (BE-GPS-2200). It's made for the iPad, iPod, and iPhone and connects via Bluetooth.

The BadElf has a mini-usb input on the side so you can charge while using.

The latest stratux build list includes a GPS source, and you can get the parts for around $130 USD.
