I flew to Huntsville, TX today and noticed that they have a JPI 450 Fuel Scan and transducer for sale. The sign says it only has 24 hours/one year of use... $350.00.

Call Huntsville Aviation, (936)295-8136. I think it's a decent deal for a very useful piece of safety equipment.

It was installed in a Swift by HA, then removed at the next annual to be replaced with a Garmin G5. The owner of the FBO, Wade Gillespie, did the install.

Thx Gary - I had one, then changed my plans so I sold it, and now my plans have changed to include the FS450 again.

I'll look into it. smile

That price may be negotiable, Steve. Just not sure how much. Good luck, and I'm hopeful someone from here is able to score the deal.

BTW, Wade Gillesie is as good as they come. Truly an aviator's aviator, and a lover of all things aviation...especially vintage aviation.

I'll use my best "exchange rate" sob story. smile Coming off a Swift though, it might have the wrong transducer. I will have to investigate - will call in the AM.

Do you fly through there often enough to pick it up?

I asked about the type of transducer and was told the Swift from which this unit was removed had a carbureted engine, no fuel injection return lines to mess with. It's hit or miss that we stop in and stay there long.

But, we'll be back in there next Wednesday, and again on Friday. I could pick it up then....or Wade can mail it to you, as well.

Carburated, but likely has at very least an engine driven pump and likely a boost pump - which would use the #201 transducer. JPI calls for the #231 transducer to be used on gravity fuel systems (with no engine driven pump). I've emailed JPI (they're not open yet) for confirmation that the #231 is a requirement, not just an option.

*edit: Yep - transducer is a model #201, which is for use with an engine driven fuel pump. Now to see what JPI says about it... maybe they can exchange it?

If you don't take it, I will. I believe the 201 is what I need on my fuel-injected Cardinal (no return fuel line).

Well, I was considering buying it, selling the 201 transducer, and buying a 231 transducer, but if you can use it Kirk - go for it.
Double check your configuration with JPI, contact tech support and they'll help you out.

I'm in the same situation, Steve. I have a JPI unit from a Cardinal that uses the 201 transducer and I need a 231. I was going to call JPI on Monday. If they won't exchange it, maybe I can get something on a trade-in. They are rather pricey. I found some cheaper ones, but the are 'Marine Only'. Not sure what the difference is.

That's too funny, I found the same slightly cheaper marine transducer as well.

No, JPI will not take the used one on exchange. I asked. And I'm not sure what the difference is on the Marine one. Since it is the same number, I presume it would work but the paperwork probably wouldn't pass muster.

I would suggest trying to get $150-$200 for your 201 transducer on eBay, and then just buy a new 231.
