Hello all,

I'd like to introduce myself. My name is James. I'm a new member as of 1/1/17. I've been out of general aviation for a long while, but I'm diving back into it head first.

A little background on me, I started flying when I was 15. At first I would fly once every few weeks whenever I had earned/saved enough to take a lesson. Eventually, I spent a small fortune and had all my airplane ratings upto MEII, high performance, complex, tailwheel. Then I decided to go to college and get a "real job." The plan was that when I was financially secure I could get back into flying. As many of you can relate, that fabled financial security is elusive and I finally decided that if I continued to wait I might never get back into aviation.

So here I am! I've decided to buy a C150, to get my feet wet again, and build my confidence (I'm technically legal and my CFII is current, but I'm very rusty). I've been looking for a few months and have all my insurance, finance, due diligence in order. I have a few very good prospects. I've never owned an airplane, only rented, so I might need to tap the collective brain trust of this club.

I did most of my flying in Southern California, and a little in Phoenix, now I'm in Louisiana. If you're wondering about my username, its a reference to being a 2007 Arizona Sundevil. wink

Regards!
James

Welcome to THE best type club on earth!

You've come to the right place when it comes to buying an airplane - we love spending other people's money! grin

We have Club members all over the country. So if you find a plane for sale, no matter where it is, chances are someone close by can take a look at it for you.

Welcome, James. And, good luck on finding that perfect compromise of a plane. If you've been looking for a plane for a while, you've seen prices/condition/hours all over the place.

There is somewhat of a method to the pricing madness. But, you gotta watch some of the folks here. As Kirk said, we LOVE spending other people's money. grin

Welcome!

James,
Welcome to club. Similar story here. Started lessons in high school. Got my PPL soon after graduating from NCSU. Quit flying about 2 years later. About 5 years ago, after a 25 year lay off, I started flying again. I purchased a C150M and fly ever chance I get. Club was a great source of info when I first bought 63U and has been a great resource every since.

Please keep us posted on how your search goes. We love pictures.

As I am sure you know by now there is a yearly C150 FlyIn in Clinton, Iowa every July. http://www.cessna150152flyin.org/ Hope to see you there.

Good wife, good friends & a Cessna 150. Life is good.

Thanks Kirk!

Thanks for the warning! smile Luckily, I don't have much money for other people to spend.

I've interacted with a couple club members so far, and that is why I joined!

Welcome James! I was in your shoes a little more than 1 year ago. After a 10 year hiatus, I re-obtained my medical, did a BFR, joined a club and got back into flying. I also got my IFR with the club's plane. But I was getting frustrated with how much I was spending on renting a 4 seater plane while flying 90% of the time by myself.

I started to research and decided to give a C150 a chance. Found a couple in the local market, went to see one for sale that was in good shape, even though it was almost an antique (C-150D from 1964), fell in love with it and here we are, after 7 months together, I've put 230 hrs on her. I've landed her on 11 states and look forward to land her on at least 37 more states unless I find the time to also land her in Alaska.

I would like to have a plane with IFR capabilities but for that, I can always rent from the club.

I love how affordable it is to fly her.

At the beginning, I thought I would develop a need for speed. But with her current pace, I get to enjoy the view at all phases given that everything goes really slow.

I already registered for the Clinton, IA flyin-in in July and find myself fantasizing on the potential routes and how many additional states I will add to her landing list.

I really love my Mosquito!

And rest assured that a major part of my experience comes from belonging to this fine club and the experiences shared by all its members.

Good luck with your plans and keep us posted with your decision and what comes next.

Gary, I'll keep an eye on other people trying to spend my money, thanks! And yes, I'm starting to get an idea of where the market is now.
