Hung,

You're right that I didn't figure those prices in yet. However, they are reduced as I help my A & P with the maintenance on my plane so his hours billed are less and his price is $45.00 per hour. Much less than what most people seem to be stating in their posts. Also, I have at least 600 hours before O/H, (1800 TBO) so it will be several years before an O/H is required at my present flying status. Also, I have a spin on oil filter and do my own oil changes.

That is why I didn't include those costs in my post.

My wife gave me a choice. Nice fancy car to drive or an airplane. I didn't bat an eye on that decision. Airplane won hands down.

Ditto for me! I bought 'Pokey' (8138U) and then gave my old car to daughter for college and said, I'll pay for your flying lessons too if you'll let me borrow 'your' car occasionally!

So, to answer your original question on ownership costs; I've been surprised by bad mag, failed dry vac pump, misc details to the tune of ~$5000 since aquiring it in September 05' However I've got to say that it's in way better shape than it was when I first got it.

Sorta amazed that I purchased it with my limited knowledge and flew it home w/ my pilot buddy w/o more unknown issues! Knowing what I know now I realize that I was taking more of a gamble than I thought!

the more you fly, the less the hourly expenses!!

So Jeff, what you are saying is that it is possible (hypothetically, of course) to fly enough hours per year, where the hourly cost approaches zero?

Is it possible to go "negative' on hourly costs so they begin to pay you back?

If it were true I'd be flying this very minute. I don't need a job or a car, I'll just FLY!!

I HAVE gotten behind on my flying recently!!

Jeff, I hope you don't find yourself too rusty, to be a force to be reckoned with, in the flying challenges!!
