Oh wow, some of those wing ribs have practically turned to dust!

And what's with the red and yellow paint in there?

Jim can't and God only knows.

This was at a time before I had a digital camera so no digital pictures exist on my end. I have a large selection of 35mm pictures that I took and have stored away somewhere on the plantation. I'll need to look for them and scan a few for posting.

Well, I have an update! After much discussion, the overall package is the aircraft as-is, and...

A Garmin 430 WAAS, GTX 330, and GI-106A.

for: $16,000.

It's definitely equipment I want, and it's already installed and 337'ed. While, it's not the deal of the century, it's also doesn't seem way off the mark either. It's also firm. So, it's really in take it or leave it territory...

Good news, Zachary! I hope you are able to get it. Just the avionics you listed would probably run close to half that (probably a lot more!) if you bought them separately.

That seems pretty high for the condition of the engine, and the condition of the airplane, which matter a lot more than the avionics. I bought my plane for not too much more than that, and it's in fantastic shape mechanically, and is pretty decently equipped.

I'd recommend walking away. Take the $16k, add a few to it and go get yourself a decent plane. The $10k you'd spend working on the engine in this one could easily get you a 430W installed.

I appreciate the comments as always!

I just got back from another round of corrosion hunting, and I found my fair share of skeletons this time. It certainly won't help the "for" case, by any means. I completely removed the carpet and found the floor pan roughly painted black, corrosion under the fuel shutoff placard, more corrosion on the pan around the fuel shutoff valve, and a nice crack in the seat pan on the passenger's side. I pulled the wingtips, and everything looks really good inside the wings given the condition of everything else, other than the damaged right wingtip that is. mad

With the 152 market appearing in the 35-40k range, I thought I might have a chance to invest something a little north of that and have a darn good little airplane. But everywhere I look it's more $$$, and that's just what I see. I think I gave it a valiant effort to save the aircraft I trained in, but unfortunately I think this one might be too far gone at this point...

Whoa, 152 are up to $35-40k now? You can get a 172 for that!

Sounds like a good decision, Zach, that looks like quite a lot of work and $$ to get her going.
