I thought the same thing, except the seller has another ad were he's selling the airframe with 2500 hours on it. It makes me think the engine's total time is also 2500 hours, but its time-since-overhaul is 2500-1800=700 hours.

He has a third ad selling the propeller.

Of course, why is he selling the engine, airframe, and propeller separately?

I have considered doing the same thing to limit liability. Especially if I built an experimental aircraft, I would almost definitely do that.
