Eric is obviously using the instant UBB code already!

Eric, you get two boxes, one after the other, to "paste" into when you want to link to a "URL". Paste into the FIRST box only (or type the url manually), but DON'T paste into the second one! Type whatever you want to show in the second box. I've found that when linking to a previous thread, it doesn't always work for me. Dunno why!

UBB converts a URL to a link automatically if you don't use instant UBB code.. I figured he just pasted the link

I have the Garmin 396 with the Airgizmo Panel Mount. It is really amazing with the weather and xm music. It Is expensive and the "aviator" weather data will cost you $50/Month. When I flew my plane from Arizona to NY, I was able to animate the Nexrad to see the directions of any storm cells. The Garmin was a good backup to all of my trained resources.

Nice setup. As clean as one can get with a handheld unit and tremendous capability for the $$$. Question regarding the wx service: Can you subscribe for only a month, such as for the "once in a while" long cross country, or is the commitment longer? Is the subscription all done online, like most other things these days?

I have a little Pilot III in my airplane, haven't used it much, yet. But I tried it on top of the glare shield, and found that it was too far away. So I got a RAM yoke mount (great unit) and put it on the left yoke. That was too close. So I mounted it on the right yoke facing to the left. Works great. The RAM mount mounts on top of the yoke, so it doesn't interfere with any knobs.

You can cancel the subscription, but they charge a $75 activation fee. For most of us XM's $29.95/month service would be ok. It isn't as comprehensive as the $50/month server but it still gives you TFRs, NEXRAD radar, forecasts, TAFS, and METARS.

I put a webpage together of "screen shots" after we got our 396 up and running last August (I don't have one with the TIS/Traffic information on-screen though): click here [aerog.com]

I'm thinking of selling my 196. The 196 is incredible.

I bought my first GPS (Trimble Flightmate) when they first came out and was impressed (then, back in the dark ages) but the 196-296-396 series simply knock my socks off.

Only reason I'm thinking of selling is to upgrade to a 396 so I can have one XM Radio subscription instead of paying for 2 (one in my truck and one in another car) plus the color screen is nice, but the 196 will get me anywhere the 396 will...

If you are interested, contact me. The 196s are fairly inexpensive used and I might just keep mine and get a 396 for a second GPS.
