Hey Jim .......... You would be surprised at how many airplanes are sitting around these airports with flat tires and no one can find the owners .......... Really a shame.

Yeah... true story. Watching these birds rot in the sun and weeds is a real heartbreak. There are a lot of 'em. frown

There are a few at KPGV I wish the owners would just give away. But they think a plane that has been sitting for 10 years is worth the Trade-A-Plane price. After all, it is low time.

Shame, some of them could be nice machines.

Good wife, good friends & a Cessna 150. Life is good.

Problem is that there is usually 10 years worth of tie down fees waiting to be collected.
I have seen planes that are sitting that aren't worth the $ owed.
I know of a Tomahawk that was sitting for many years after the owner passed away.
Someone finally bought it from the family and when he went to get it ready for a ferry permit
he found out about the tie down fees that were owed.
I don't know how much he paid for the plane or what the fees were but I do know that when he finally got it in to the shop for an annual and found out
just what it would cost to make it air worthy he was already $12,000 into it and ended up selling it for a loss with out fixing anything.

There is no end to all of this ...... General Aviation is sporadic at best depending on where you are located. The big money areas with good economies are doing better than the areas hardest hit. I have seen countless airplanes sitting on flat tires down to the rims, but the tie down fees are either paid or not ....... Weird situation, planes not flying, rotting on their wheels

Yup. frown

Every time I see one they remind me of a discarded and faithful Black Lab who's been dropped of at the animal shelter with a death sentence hanging over his head. frown

Neither the plane nor the Lab did anything to deserve such a shameful fate.

Dang shame.

Mark,
I am lucky having just moved into a hangar a row over from our very own Brian Anderson. Smack dab in the middle of expensive bay area, annuals have been extremely reasonable and Brian even donated a fridge for said beer before I moved the plane in! Saddly neither he or I drink much but a Five Guy's burger has sufficed for compensation.

I do not have experience at smaller airports but I keep meeting interesting folks with projects that know someone who knows someone.....

I hope we all find a good wrench to make flying what it should be, happy hunting.
