While looking for an airplane I saw too many airplanes rotting into the asphalt / concrete.

It is sad to see an airplane sitting on tie-down rotting away with so many people wanting to find a good one to buy.

The ones rotting away at a tie-down usually aren't good ones to buy.

But, I understand the sentiment - it's ashame to see an otherwise good plane go to waste through neglect.

It makes me think 'What did the airplane do to deserve such treatment?'.

I checked into some of the local "abandoned" airplanes when I was searching for one. The owners seemed to think their "Cherokee 140" with 1700 hours on the engine and flat tires was worth over $40k? This was a common theme. Some had sat still for over 7+ years. At least in Arizona, most of these could be brought back to life, but not at $40k. Obviously. But why pay a tiedown fee of $50/month for 7 years to have an airplane usable only for parts? Sell it while it's worth something and let someone else take care of it. Instead of paying $5,000 in storage fees to let it rot into a worthless pile of parts.

We have a pop up camper in a storage lot. Same thing happens there. .???

I so agree I'm in that boat now rescuing an Aerobat. I went through an experience, working out of town an unreliable AP and an airport closing. I put my plane up for sale man, all the bottom-feeders came out. I was offered $3000, the engine is less than 100 sfrm!!!. Fortunately Joe Cirri, AP/IA from KDMN, showed up and put me back on track to finish my dream.
