If anyone is interested, I just wanted to provide an update as to what I've found out about replacement upper cowl nose cap alternatives.

As of 6/18/15 the following companies are not offering anything:

Stene Aviation - At one time they may have had something but as of right now they say they don't

RMD and Selkirk Aviation - nothing available

Globe Fiberglass - nothing available at present but 'keep checking back'

FYI I still may be looking for one in the near future if anybody has any ideas/suggestions. Thanks much!

Can't guarantee anything, but my son-in-law works at First Class Fiberglass in St. Peters, MO. They are like a auto body shop for boats and RVs. Plus, he used to work at a place in Wentzville, MO that builds ocean going racing boats. Remember the two boats at the beginning of Miami Vice the movie? He built those boats from scratch.

Let me talk to him and see if him and I can start making the top nose bowl for the cowlings.

Be back as soon as I have some more info...

Talked with Frank, my son-in-law. We are going to try and start a very small part time company and make the earlier version of the top nose cowling for the Cessna 150.

We estimate that it will take us about 3 months to get the mold made and produce the first unit. We have plans to make it a structurally better version of what the OEM part.

I need to know how many people would be interested in purchasing one?

We are estimating the cost to be from $250.00 to $300.00 per unit. We feel we can produce at least 12 per year. Remember this will be a two person company, with an expert fiberglass person making these units.

I'd be extremely cautious of what you advertise it as, 1) not being a PMA part and 2) the Friendly Aviation folks lurking on the web. Perhaps, this is why one of the aforementioned 'aftermarket companies' that was selling them pulled them from the market? Who knows. I do know they were available in fiberglass for a limited while.

Other than that, I think they'll sell GREAT!!!

Every single one of the metal nose models I have observed, have a series of patches from the cracking. Finding a suitable example to make a mold from may be problematic, tho....Sadly, y'all may have to purchase a new metal one to accomplish that feat. $$$$ mad frown frown mad

I think there is a clause that says if you send them your old one, it can be considered an "owner produced" part. No PMA required.

That is what I am understanding also. If you send me a piece of your existing cowling i can "repair" it for you as an A&P/IA

Ronald - I think there may be some interest in this from members and other C-150 owners.

Almost every upper cowling nose cap I've seen either has cracks in it and/or repairs made to it. I think a fiberglass product might be a great alternative.

Unfortunately I probably won't be able to wait that long for mine. frown

FAA-PMA approval might have been an issue for some of the aftermarket companies ($$$). MAYBE an 'owner fabricated' part could be an option.

You might be able to team-up with a company like Stene or Texas Aeroplasitics for a joint venture of some sort......???

Regardless I wish you the best. I think it's an idea worth looking into further.

Ron, I have a damaged lower nose bowl from an F model that I got when I purchased an entire lower cowling for its sheet metal. If you are going to start fabricating components, you might just want to make it a set.eek You can have this one, just needs a little bondo work to make a good mold for the plug.

Bring it to Clinton John.

Thanks.

We need a cowl to make the mold.
