Big woop. When I get in my airplane the object of the drill is to get somewhere. I very rarely, if at all, fly SLOW.

Lazy 500 agl flight over fall color trees ..... Following a river with its twists and turns ..... Circling over the green field watching the deer graze .....enjoying the shimmer of the sun over the lake .... Low enough to see the kids building snowmen. All while listening to nice music piped into the headphones.

That is why I fly.

Sure sometimes I need to just get somewhere. But then the plane is just a vehicle.

The comparison is like this: One is a Harley on curved mountain roads .... The other is a Greyhound bus on the interstate. LOL

Lets go fly and add more color!

Yeah, if I was anywhere DC I'd always be eager to get away, too.

grin

Fortunately, I live where I can enjoy just FLYING, whether I have anywhere to go or not.

Well most of my flying is at 480 knots at 35,000 feet.

So when I get down to 90 knots at 3,500 feet that IS enjoying flying to me. So I don't need VGs. Your mileage may vary.

Just a slightly different perspective as a pilot is watching the ground spinning up at him after oopsing by making that too low, too slow, too steep, turn from base to final........

"If only I had installed those VG's!" eek cry

Flying a 150/152 without VG's is like driving a car with bald tires. That car drives JUST fine with those tires. Yep you have less control. Yep you have less capability. Yep you hope you aren't driving around Atlanta praying it doesn't snow. Oh jeez it snowing. (man I wish I had a little more rudder)

I'll throw in my vote for leaving them off. I've not flown a 150/152 that didn't fly just fine without them.

If VG's are so great, why don't they sell kits to glue them all over our cars to make the air flow better over them? wink

Seriously- I have an Aerobat, and I don't see the benefit of these, or flap gap seals, or Madras wingtips, or......... whistle

I have the Horton STOL kit on my 150M. They were on the plane when I bought it. They do seem to improve stability at the low end. You can not get the plane to stall. Nice slow landing speed are easy on the gear.

However, I don't think the improvement is worth the cost. I would not pay to install them. But they are on the plane so I certainly am not going to pay to take them off.

Look around at Clinton. How many 150/152s do you see with VG or STOL kits? I think I have seem one other 150 with a Horton STOL kit.

Maybe someone could setup a survey: Do you have VG or STOL on your plane?

Good wife, good friends & a Cessna 150. Life is good.
