The report is in, the logs are a mess and very incomplete (decades missing) the best estimates are:

TTAF 7400
TSMOH 2500 over 34 years
TSTOH 450
TSPOH 70

Unless the seller wants to drop the price $10,000, and most likely even then, I think it is time to walk away. That is the first one under my belt!

With regards to low and slow, I just love being 500?AGL and speed doesn?t matter if I?m in a hurry I can take an airliner.

What was the asking price, out of curiosity?

$14K, which isn't that low (according to Vref) when you have all these problems

I paid that for the first 150H that I purchased. We found her in a hangar covered with dust and just out of annual. He was asking 17K and I told him that I'd give 14K and pay for the annual but not for repairs. She had about 5200TT, 425SMOH (about 10 years old), no significant DH, complete logs and paperwork (even the original spec sheets)and lousy but functional paint. Two weeks later he took the offer. The annual was $600.00. I searched for 9 months before we stumbled across this one just by luck. Flew her 3 1/2 years. Now, I just bought a 150F after being "planeless" for almost 1.5 years. Looked at a lot of different planes some good and some not so good! Keep looking and keep asking questions. Walk if it just doesn't feel right. Find a "buying buddy". The right one will come along.

Kinda like getting married. You'll never find the right one if you look too hard. Ease up a little and the right one will find you... Well, kinda sorta like that... Well, almost, anyway...

There are a lot ot taildraggers out there, like the Cessna 140. A good many of them, at one time in their history, performed a little maneuver called a ground loop. This can cause some serious damage to the aircraft. Many of these have been repaired and returned to service. And I would guess that many of them have had little trouble with the repairs.

As the others said, I would be more concerned about the overhaul, and overall upkeep of the aircraft. That may be more important.
