My old engine had about 6,500 hours on it It needed an overhaul (low oil pressure, metal in the oil, etc.)
The logbooks were incomplete/had missing data. I figured 6,500/1,800 meant at least three overhauls in its history. I didn't want to mess with it, so I bought a brand new engine. I got mine for $19,250. Pricey, but I love the way it runs, and I don't worry as much while flying.
Those prices apparently are long gone, but I still know the guy (formerly from Mattituck) who now works at Continental. If anyone wants to go the new engine route, I can give you this guy's name/email and maybe he can work out a deal.
