Yeah I just contacted them. they have new "surplus" air boxes made by Continental for sale for $950 - uncertified. Seems to me if I am going to buy a non-certified air box it would come from Aircraft Spruce for $150-ish.

They offered to put a "kit" (McFarlane) in the existing airbox to make it better than new, but I still need them to give me an estimate on repairing the damage to the air box housing, which is the fundamental problem.

Maybe, take a few pics and email it to them?

Haha! No kidding.

Anyway, I did take a picture of the defective air box and Acorn Welding said they could repair and install a kit for ~$450.

But I decided to pick up that one on eBay for $250 ($300 shipped to Canada).

Thanks to all for all you feedback and comments! I looks forward to many more interactions with you great group of guys as I embark on my airplane-ownership-journey!

Eric

Well that would be a lot of fun, but it isn't exactly in the neighborhood for me :-) Aside from flying into the US (daunting task), it would be a couple thousand miles!

No excuse.

Bruce Bennett from New Brunswick was first to register this year. He will tell you how to do it!

I've repaired several cracked airboxes. If the bearing for the door is in good shape then 90% of the time a repair is the best option
