Bill I don't know why it "grates your hide" because the Cherokee 180 varients are fantastic airplanes- 180, Archer, Cherokee D....great performance and range on good fuel burn, easy to fly. I loved the Archer- better X-C machine than a 172 or 182. Good IFR plane, too. Have you flown one? | | | | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 13,969 Member/10,000+ posts! | Member/10,000+ posts! Bill I think what Bill may referring to is our flying trip to Page, AZ and later trips around the Alvord and such. I don't normally use this language, and since I used to own a 150/150 I can speak with some authority, but the little Cherokee 180 flat....well....KICKED ASS AND TOOK NAMES, all while carrying 3 adults. Out ran, out climbed and out-hauled. I didn't think it was possible myself, and yes, mine is a B model (Hershey bar wing and empty weight of 1282 lbs), but as a utility airplane it is quite surprising. Plus it hauls 50 gallons of fuel and has 1100+ useful. Oh...and did I forget to mention that they can be had nowadays for not much more money than a 150/150. But....it does not offer very effective shade and I do prefer two doors over one. I bought the Cherokee thinking it was just cheap flying until I could move up to something else again. Honestly, the "cheap flying" part of it stuck and it will probably be my last bird too. | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 9,797 Likes: 97 Member/7500+posts | Member/7500+posts Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 9,797 Likes: 97 | I'm with Bill on this one, too. I have flown both the 150/150 and many versions of the Cherokee design...the Cherokee 140, both 150 and 160 hp, as well as the early 180's and later Archers, tapered wing and hershey bar straight wing variants. I was used to the awesome performance of my 150/150 at sea level, and was amazed at how density altitude really ate into that performance. It was especially disgruntling to watch Jeff and Kathie out climb me and walk off and leave us if he wanted to. However, the figure eights around the pylons on the desert floor was a highlight of that trip.

I love those that were flown by the VNAF. If you really want one, <<MASH HERE>> [ flightplanet.com] You might have to come out of retirement though. ONLY a mil-seven. I can pay for the jet, but they'll have to give me free fuel to get it home, then it'll be parked after that. | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 3,361 Likes: 4 Member/2500+posts | Member/2500+posts Joined: May 2009 Posts: 3,361 Likes: 4 | Ya know, I believe that this is the only aircraft type forum where a person gets into trouble for showing appreciation for the type! Bill Nope, it is the only aircraft type forum where we say, "when you have 600+ hours in one, you can comment realistically about them."

LOL Tim. It wasn't our 150 that had to be dragged back off of the end of the runway and that's realistic enough for me......... Bill | | |
