Amy,
I'm not an Apple iPad user, but my friends who are claim the "white" version is more prone to showing the dirt & scratches over time.

I'm sure you can get some opinions here, if that is a concern.

So more than likely I will end up switching.

Amy I'm afraid you'll have to make this decision up front. The data technologies (cell spectrum etc) are different so you either buy an AT&T or Verizon version, and cannot switch without getting a different iPad.

(You can upgrade or downgrade plans with either one, but not change carriers)

I'm not sure if I am misunderstanding you, but be aware that there is a Verizon iPad and an AT&T iPad. Once you buy one or the other, you are locked into their network. You can't buy an AT&T one and later decide to subscribe to the Verizon service. You are stuck with AT&T as long as you own that iPad.

If you knew this already, please ignore. smile

Edit: I guess it would help if I read the whole thread before responding. I see Sandy already said the same thing as I just did.

Well ......... Yeah ....

The 747 has 3 GPSs that tell the Flight Management System where it is, so it can navigate and make all those pretty pictures on the Navigation Displays. But, we still use paper Jeppesen charts and approach plates. I've got all the Jepps on my iPad, and with it connected to the Dual GPS it will follow along and give me our position on the Jepp charts, or on my Wing X when I'm flying in the U.S.

I got the AT&T iPad just for the internal GPS. I don't need the WiFi so I never turned it on.

Lol! laugh

Okay guys, I didn't know. I thought that the AT&T and Verizon iPads were different because each one started you off with their service, and that you could later switch.

I didn't know this guys. Thank you! I talked with my Mom, and she's all for Verizon. So I think that's what I'll get. Hey! She's buyin'! Why not? grin

You guys are just amazing. Thanks SO MUCH!!!

If not too late to the party:

White - it stays a hair cooler when you put it up on the glareshield and it overheats and you get the "I'm too hot message"

Also a white cover.

Same reason.

And full size over mini - but I have older eyes and like the bigger screen.

and a full size is the same size as the two segments of my trifold kneeboard so I don't think it is such a big deal as some seem to think it is.

YMMV

My recommendation: full-size AT&T iPad2 with no data plan. AT&T gives you the option to get a dataplan on a month to month basis in case you need it at a future time. (I never have needed to because wi-fi is so readily available.)

I also recommend Dual XGPS150 for better GPS reception.

Then, get an iPhone in case you need internet at remote places.

Reason for my suggestion? That's what I have!

You will find that you use the iPad+iPhone for a lot more than just aviation.

Better coverage, eh. Well, I got three bars of AT&T in the Alvord Desert. Can you say that about Verizon? Hmmmmm?
