I am using AirHawks on both the Mooney and the Cessna 150. They seem to be good tires for a very good price.

Gary, ALL the airlines put retreads on the jets.
In over 20 years working on DC-8,DC-10,B737, B757, B767, MD-80,DC-9 I have never installed a "new" tire. Never,
The only new tires I ever saw were Boeing factory tires installed on a brand new 737-800, and there was "Boeing" moulded into the sidewall....
I'm "testing" the Desser Monster Retreads, but since I only change tires every 10 years, it will be a while to see the long term durability, and I'm in a hangar so weather checking/ sun damage is also minimal.

Brian,

I would think the application you describe is perfect for retreads. The airlines probably go through them so fast the sidewall deterioration is not an issue. If the core tire passes the retread manufacturer's QC requirements the tread will likely be used up by the airliner much sooner than the sidewall deteriorates. But, on a little GA plane that sits in the sun with relatively little use, it seems likely the old sidewall may fail before the new tread ever does.

By the way, how long does a tire last on an commercial airliner?

Either one will give you competitive prices.

Retreads? No opinion. When I checked it seemed like there was very little price advantage(?)

Ha, Brian. You can put retreads on everything you have, it doesn't bother me. Even if you put them on your wheelbarrow and every Boeing you have, it won't change my mind.

I appreciate your interest in my opinion, and I do respect yours. Have a nice day. grin
