I tried an el-cheapo generic 10-inch Android (>$150) for aviation purposes. It was an exercise in frustration. As Hung said, it's probably good for basic things like browsing, Angry Birds, etc., but it probably won't have the oomph (RAM, disk space, etc.) you need. My guess is that complex aviation apps won't work well. I bought it to display PDFs of FAA charts, and the tablet choked because of large file size. I wound up re-selling it on eBay and buying an iPad+iPhone. My iPad, at 4x the price of the cheap tablet, does all tasks well, reliably, and with no frustration or wasted time. You can read about my experience:
CLICK HEREIt really makes no difference to me that people buy and love their Apple products. I just don't like their overprice and the way Apple designs/controls their software. My one and only experience with Apple was an iPod Touch and I didn't like that everything (including deleting a song) has to be done through iTunes. I sold it soon after that.
Agreed! iTunes is a POS, but I learned to live with it and am generally happy with my Apple products.
If you want an Android instead of Apple iOS, you should probably just pay the money and get a good, name brand, high-quality one that is known to work reliably with aviation apps. The price for a top-quality Android will be close to an iPad.
As always, your mileage may vary.
