With parts and labor, he estimates that there will be about $4600 worth of work to be done on the plane. But with that work, he thinks it will be a good plane that I can get a lot of years out of.

So far, I haven't talked to the owners. I am inclined to go with the plane, but I want to talk to the owner about what has been found. The one owner has done a lot of his own maintenance, but I want the work to be done by the people who did the prebuy. Any thoughts?

Pat,

You already have a figure in your head about how much you should pay for a good servicable 150, Correct? When you add the purchase price and all the other additional cost to this aircraft, does it meet that figure in your head? If not, keep looking. My personal figure for a decent standard 150 is $20,000. I start to get really squimish if the price starts going above that. There has to be some real incentive involved. There are just too many decent aircraft out there in that mid to high teens value bracket.

Latest update.

I just got off the phone with the seller. He and his partner understand that there are a number of repairs that the aircraft needs. They were unwilling to do them and they did not want to reduce the price.

He understood my decision to withdraw my offer. I think he even anticipated it. So, it looks like I am back in the market for a new aircraft.

A good decision, I think!

As I feared, sounds like they wanted $20,000 for a $15,000 airplane (just for example!)

Hang in there! We're all here to help, if we can!
