I just found out about a 150 that has been sitting in a hangar and not flown for more than 10 years. I'm going to look at it and decide on Saturday. I'm most interested in the ski's that it has. (I've been looking for a nose ski) The plane would need to sell for a pretty reasonable price to make me want to have 2 of them.

What I know...

It's got a 150hp lyc and we all know sitting is about the worst thing that can happen to those cams. Any practical way to peak inside and see? The ad says 2000TT no mention of logs at all and it's not clear if that means aircraft or engine. No NTSB report was found on the web. What's a plane worth with no logs and a 10+ year vacation from flying. Just give me a range, I realize there are way too many variables to be really close on a number. I'm going to look it over well, and bring a check just in case he really wants to sell it. I saw a picture and it looks ok, but they all do from 30 feet away. My A&P is invited along.

I'd welcome all your opinions on value. As is, where is. I don't know anymore than you do at this point so just give it your best shot. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Good Day,
Keep me posted on how you make out with this aircraft. If you decide not to buy it, PM me with the details on why you decided against it. I might be interested. I'm in the market for a "Fixer-upper" 150/150

Hey Jim- I'll be interested to see how this turns out. I think you should buy it and sell me the main skis for cheap, cheap, cheap!

Course, then I'd be in the same predicament as you looking for the elusive nose ski...

Okay guys but give me some numbers. I like to spec trade on stuff. I used to do that with farm equipment, but never did a plane, and never did anything over 5 grand. My wife is really nervous about this. She's super conservative which is how come I'm able to do this so I won't complain.

Mark, I hope your serious because my wife would love for you to buy it.

Pat, if I keep striking out on nose ski's, I may sell the 1500 mains I have.

Jim, Like I said I am in the market BUT i can't buy anything "on site-unseen". I have to have some sort of idea of what I am getting. The best thing to do, is for you to look at it, and PM with with what your opinion is of it. If you can buy the skis alone, then do that then PM me with the info on the remaining aircraft.

There is at least one other speculator that should be present to bid. It was his relative, an FBO that told me about it.

My A&P wants to go too. He's also heard about it and is quite intrigued by this.

As an apples-n-oranges comparison - my 150 was in a similar state, having not flown for five years (and flown very little the previous ten). Then, in 2001 it received $10k of maintenance before I bought it.

Now, to be fair, that particular shop was known for its high prices - all defensible, no outright padding of the bill, but every nut, bolt, washer and cotter pin was accounted for and billed... along with the labor to install.

On the other hand, none of that bill was for engine work outside of an oil change, spark-plug cleaning and new air filter.

Sooo, in my random sample of one static plane, you can spend a lot of money getting the airframe airworthy and still not have made it forward of the firewall. Then again, I put 1000 hours on that engine before it needed an overhaul.
