Even a spiritual rebirth each time I take flight. Even if it cost 1000 dollars per flight, I would dutifully save up for each opportunity to cleanse my soul.
I can decide that lots of things are outside of my price range. But piloting an aircraft aloft? I'm afraid I am forever destined to live with the desire to rise above the earth on my own set of wings. I feel sorry for those who have tasted this great joy and then turn from it, either by choice or out of necessity. Alas, it is all I can do to live my life as best I can. So, to each his own. Well said .... Reg | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 1,691 Member/1500+posts | Member/1500+posts Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 1,691 | I believe Gary said it best, and I agree with him. I've owned my plane for over 5 years. If I really added up all the costs of ownership, It wouldn't make sense to keep it. Flying for even a half hour after work clears my head, demands my full attention and makes me smile like an idiot when I'm done. how can you put a price on that? I'll keep it til I can't fly any longer and enjoy every minute until I sell her. | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 4,204 Likes: 1 Member/2500+posts | Member/2500+posts Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 4,204 Likes: 1 | I believe Gary said it best, and I agree with him. In the eight years I rented I had a total of 150 hours. After I bought the Duchess I began flying over 100 hours a year. The day I have to give up flying will be devastating! | | | | Joined: May 2009 Posts: 3,361 Likes: 4 Member/2500+posts | Member/2500+posts Joined: May 2009 Posts: 3,361 Likes: 4 | So... (ellipsis abuse) is the former Mr. Ed (still) for sale?

Probably a more appropriate statement is that it's up for trade, Tim. If somebody can point us in the direction of an Experimental, or Experimental LSA, that we can acquire for approximately the same cost, (trade?), then we will let it go. Here are the minimum requirements: 1] Under $30,000 2} A minimum of being a two place 3] Large enough baggage area to carry Cheyenne 4] Useful load to safely operate with the three of us 5] Not totally, but pretty set on tricycle gear. Based on our success so far in locating such an airplane. We have a sneaking suspicion that we are still going to be flying our plane for quite a while! That's gonna be a tough nut to crack (but I'll bet you figured that out already)
I really want a 7ECA Citabria but with hangars around $7-800 a month here that remains a dream!
Good luck!

At the time, I was supremely confident that we would find a suitable replacement in a very short time. We sure learned our lesson there! Presently we are changing out the three piece wheels, axles and brakes. We are preparing the long range wings for installation. We have new lift strut and landing gear fairings to install. There is a new flap switch and tach to install. In other words, we are proceeding as if we are going to still be flying this airplane for a long long time.

A thought... Next time somebody walks in your hangar say in your best accent,
"mee likey fixie air-pain... fix much air-pain for my country..."
Then in perfect English say, "stranger danger! stranger danger! call 911 call 911"

The parts all told run us under $2,000. The real expense would be to get the wings painted. But then, we might as well paint the rest of the plane while we are at it. What would that be? About $5,000? If somebody wanted to complete this project themselves. For under $30,000, somebody could have a real nice 150/150 here with a low time engine. Just find us a suitable replacement Experimental or Experimental LSA to trade!
