I personally would keep Mr ED untill I was forced to change.
That`s my plan for now, if my health gets bad, I will ether quit flying altogether or go LSA.
I love my Cessna Yep, what Steve said.....and wishing you the best of luck in your search Bill! I too am shopping the LSA market right now. I think I saw a picture on the Just Aircraft web site and the luggage compartment on Highlander was pretty impressive - might be suitable for what you have in mind.
I'm probably down to a Kitfox or a Zenith 650. The Kitfox baggage area is, sorry to say - very small. I got to fly a SS7 with the Rotax and it was a superfun airplane to fly - enormous visibility - you can almost see straight down the way the doors are made.
Am going to travel to look at several 650's - hopefully in the next month.
Hope you find what you're looking for and will be interested to hear what you choose.
PS: Am just about settled on the Corvair engine with the 5th bearing mod.

Budget is a little more concerning there though, but yes, it does have some nice tidbits like adjustable seats, full length baggage (for sleeping in when parked), no control surface disconnects when folding the wings, and is an extremely capable plane, yet a lamb to handle on the ground.

So I thought I would post it first here to allow a Club Member to acquire for themselves this faithful and fantastically performing machine at a decent price. Approximately 5,000 hours on the airframe. Approximately 400 hours SMOH on O-320E2D. Since many folks put a lot of stock in what it would have in the instrument panel. The following were installed right before we purchased it. Apollo 360 GPS. KI-701 and KT-76A. KLN-89B, Garmin 327, KI-206, KN-75, MX-170B and MX-11. It will come with an extra pair of long range wings. And Cleveland main wheels and brakes to replace the existing three piece McCauley's. Thinking about $24,000 presently. I am going to insist on no first time buyers. And that the buyer be comfortable in maintaining their own aircraft. Y'all know how to get a hold of me. Bill Grants Pass, Oregon [ Linked Image] February 19th of this year was when I posted this initially. Wow! Eight months ago! My reasoning at the time for wanting to sell our 150?? I wanted to get into an aircraft in which I would have basically have a free hand with it's maintenance and modification. And to get out from under the requirement of the third class medical. I started this endeavor absolutely confident that within a short time I would find that aircraft that would fit our needs and budget. Boy, was I wrong!! I have been into Barnstormers and other selling sites nearly every day. And, here it is eight months later with absolutely no fruit to show for the time and effort expended. Except having the knowledge of added confirmation that the 150 or 152 does it's mission very well. And is a very hard airplane to replace with like or kind. 18 July 2009 -- looked at a Falcon 103 ultralight. Good price, but it was in easy to carry pieces -- I'd have to assembly it, hook up the Rotax 227 engine, etc.
30 July 2009 -- put a $500 deposit on a two seat, registered (tail number) Falcon. The owner, within a month, was to get it running (it had been sitting for a while) and make a demonstration flight. He installed new carbs, new fuel lines, did a lot of work, but never could get it air worthy.
22 Sep 2009 bought into a Ercoupe partnership (four members.) Not entirely satisfied with this arrangement, but nice to have a two seat aircraft. Still looking.
5 Mar 2010 Drove to Mt. Sterling KY to look at a Ragwing Ultra Piet (a single seat version of the Petenpol.) The left rudder pedal broke while I was taxing it. If that had happened in the air, Jeanene would have been shipping my body home in a box.
8 Mar 2010 Checked out a High Max. It had no N# and was not legal as a 103 ultralight. Essentially could not be legally flown, and no way to make it legal.
9 Mar 2010 Drove to New Madrid, MO to look at a Weedhopper. The fellow only flew it if the wind was below 5 mph. It lacked the ability to handle a crosswind.
5 Jun 2010 Drove to Jerseyville, IL to look at a Fly Baby. Although very rough, it had a tail number, electric start, and the engine did start immediately. Sounded good. I did buy this plane, although it was not in a condition to fly (the price was right.) I had it moved to Sullivan on a car hauler.
Fall 2010: Flew the Ercoupe while working off-and-on on the Fly Baby. Late in 2010, the partners decided upon a complete stem to stern repair of the Ercoupe.
Spring and Summer 2011: Took tail wheel training and Soaring lessons while waiting for the Ercoupe rebuild. Continued to work on the Fly Baby.
22 Oct 2011 Fly Baby passed condition inspection, compression good, no major squawks, taxied ok;
22 Oct 2011 (same day) Ercoupe back up after extensive repairs.
And for the last two years, I've been a part of the 9-member Scrounge Dawgs building a Pietenpol. It should fly this summer (which is what we said last summer.)
So finding a plane that meets even the most basic criteria is difficult.

I have a few hours in an Alon from my earlier years. What a fun airplane. However, if we have to choose between Experimental, or Light Sport, we think the Experimental route will be the most satisfying.
We were thinking strongly of possibly an Experimental Taylorcraft. But after hearing what we would have to pay for the extra insurance for a taildragger. We're thinking keeping the little wheel in front would be the best option there also.
So, where do we go from here? A tricycle Experimental LSA with enough room to carry Cheyenne. All under $25,000? Our experience so far is telling us it still may be a bit more of a wait. But, if patient, the right airplane just has to come along some day. Doesn't it?

A plane for sale, a plane sold, a plane not for sale. So many emotions in just a short little time. The plane is still for sale, Kyle. All the buyer needs to do is provide a lead for an Experimental LSA at approximately the same selling price. With enough room for Cheyenne! That's it! Just as simple as that! Easy? Right? Or, right now, I would just settle for a tricycle Experimental!
