Certainly ...
Having been in the forum for a while and listened to the spirited debates on MMO, w&b's and the merits of 150 hp vs. 100/110/125hp, I knew that being a larger than average guy I ultimately wouldn't be happy with a stock 150/152.
Seriously in the market for a plane about two years ago, I saw a nice C152/150hp (N4744B)in SC, long story short I let my wife talk me out of buying it. I continued to look, ran an occasional WTB ad in Barnstormers while reading and re-reading through everything I could find on Del-Air, TN Wings, GPB's plane ... basically I had a good idea of what I was looking for ! End of Nov 2010, I ran an ad in Barnstormers and got a hit from Dale Moorehead. His '76 C150M/150hp, LR tanks, 1760 GW, TN Wings seats, Airplane of The Month was for sale at a fair price, which I paid without countering or trying to beating him down to the last nickel. Later, Dale said that he didn't think it would sell so quick !
The pre-buy was done at US Aviation in Denton TX, which has a large flight school geared towards international student. Think they have something like 12-14 C150's in their squadron, so they have inside and outside mx requirements. Dale dropped the plane off on a Wednesday (with an appointment), mx director went on vacation that Friday, and it sat there for a week before the no. 3 guy got his act together, opened it up and started asking questions that he should've known the answer to. When they finally finished the prebuy/annual inspection two weeks later, Dale ended up paying a grand on airworthiness cleanups, I ended up paying $800 for the prebuy/annual, another $400 for a peace-of-mind SB inspection, rounded up to $2k on my side; plus they missed an issue on the flap rollers which I had taken care of in VA !
So we fly down to Dallas commercial the night before the delivery/closing date and the next morning pretty much mailed everything back except toothbrushes. The flight back was memorable with me @ 6'2 240, my instructor @ 160 lbs and a fair amount of fuel. The plane climbed like an rocket ! We stopped in Hot Spring AR, somewhere in TN, weather drove us south into AL (felt like 25G40), with an overnight in Winston-Salem NC. I have to give Landmark KINT a shoutout for their service (
http://www.airnav.com/airport/KINT/LANDMARK#c ), first class !
Made a short hop from NC up to Manassas VA on day three ...
Sorry no pics but the plane is still up in the 2006 AOTM directory. It really turns heads up here, and I get compliments everytime I'm out !
I've been flying twice a weekend since I got back !
