My 152 eats landing lights. I did a little research and found GE claims an MTBF of 25 Hrs for the GE4596. I'm considering the Q4596 by Whelen. The Q4596 has an MTBF of 250Hrs, but it costs ~$75. Does anyone have any experience with the Whelen part?

Well, look at it like this.

GE light - 25 Hrs, about...ohh...14-15 bucks plus time to do it yourself.

Whelen lamp - 250 hours at 75 bucks plus time to do it yourself.

25 goes into 250 10 times. 10 times 15 bucks = 150 bucks plus ten times replacement effort.


Go with the Whelen!

The numbers seem straight forward, but they are based on statistics and we all know about statisticians!
