Shoot...if I lived in NJ (thank God I dont!!) I'd ferry that plane for free! Just the fun of flying would be payment enough!

Kirk Wennerstrom flew from CT to TX for a fly-in earlier this year. He can tell you how long it took and the expenses. For the right compensation, perhaps he can do it for you.

Here's a related question: Can someone without a commercial certificate get paid to ferry someone else's plane? In fact, wouldn't they be precluded from even being reimbursed for fuel?

Anyone that would fly it to Texas for you will need to
get to NJ some how. Either after flying to Texas or before.
Why not buy Ed a ticket and let him do it?

Well, if someone already lived in NJ, they would only need one ticket--to get back home from Texas.

If they didn't, they've need two tickets. One to get to NJ and one to get back to wherever they came from once they got to Texas.

Oh wait, I see your point. Ed's already in Texas.

Well anyway, I think it would be worth paying for that extra ticket if it meant the guy would ferry your plane for free! Heck, I'd consider doing it, but, as I posted above, I have concerns as to whether or not that's kosher for a Private Pilot to do.

Without diging up and trying to decipher the regs (again), off the top of my head I'm sure it can be done legally! You just can't make a cent above expenses, so you'll need copies of all receipts for everything. You have to provide your services free, without a commercial ticket, but there's no reason you shouldn't be reimbursed for any and all expense to move the plane.

Come to think of it, I'd do it myself! Anybody need a Cessna flown out of Florida?

Or back?
